The foundations of nowadays Zlín Zoo was laid by count Joseph Karl Seilern. This important ornithologist and traveller built a museum of natural history at first. He collected a collection of 25 000 Palearctic birds, 42 000 bird eggs and 10 000 hummingbirds. But more important was that he initialised breeding of first deer and exotic animals.
